Abus – Istället för gemenskap har vi karriärer och offerkoftor

„Abus“ followed their debut tape from 2013 with this second tape in 2015. „Abus“ are from Turku/Finland and describe themselves in their „visionary biography“ briefly as „Punk and hardcore. Without limits or limitations.“ This, without too much exaggeration, more or less nails it, not least since the band mainly sings in French, English and Swedish. Their new tape with the Swedish title „Istället för gemenskap har vi karriärer och offerkoftor“ contains also a song in Finnish („Tahdon“). Maybe we find here an explanation for Abus’s own reasons (if there are) to practice such a form of polyglot songwriting: Different contexts and audiences require different modes of communication.

Why certainly! The technical side of the music is well spiced up. Hardcore and Punk are at its best here; this means that the band does not follow genre trivialities or shifts into an overproduced style. And all these surprises in the songs! The music is very structured and shows great creative drive. Not annoying at all. No song is like the other, nevertheless everything sounds completely grounded. It has a certain passion which I would call rare these days. That’s D.I.Y., you’ll never get it! The vocals, however, will perhaps remind the one or the other ear of „Knochenfabrik“/„Chefdenker“. Probably, there isn’t an interesting explanation for that. Absolutely worth listening, though, and an urging recommendation! The tape exists in an edition of only 50 copies (!). Each of them a singular piece of art and craft: handwritten tracklists, sprayed band logo on the tapes itself and (if that isn’t enough) always a different polaroid foto pinned to the tape sleeve as a cover. And yes: The band is currently working on new material. So stay tuned! Any questions left? Tape comes for only 3,- (plus postage).
